The distribution of 7,000 (50kg) bags of NPK 20:10:10 fertilizer, 7,000 litres of agro-chemical (Cypermarthrin 10EC liquid insecticide) and 7,000 mud-efficient clean Cookstoves to 7,000 pre-qualified dry season/irrigation farmers across the 7 benefiting LGA of Baure, Daura, Dutsi, Mai Adua, Mashi, Sandamu and Zango in Katsina State was flagged off on February 12, 2018 at Mashi LGA by His Excellency, the Deputy Governor/Hon Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu FNIQS. He was represented by the Senior Director of Forestry in the Ministry.
In his speech, the Deputy Governor appreciated the efforts of the EU in fighting desertification and commended OXFAM and ICEED for the successes recorded by the Project. He acknowledged the contributions of the project in supporting the ongoing Government’s afforestation programme.
Earlier on, the Project Manager/Team Leader, Chris Udokang informed all that the Project had achieved over 85% of all its target results and thanked stakeholders for their support. He enjoined beneficiaries to use the materials for the intended purpose of promoting afforestation and improve livelihood and resilience of households through increase of income from non-timber forest products maintained by them.
The Hon Commissioner, Ministry of Environment, Head of Council Administration, Mashi LGA, District Head of Mashi, and many other dignitaries within and outside the LGA witnessed the ceremony.
